Part of the series «Chamber music compact» – Trio Gaspard plays 7 concerts in 3 days.
Dmitri Shostakovich: Piano Trio No. 2 E minor op. 67
George Enescu: «Sérénade lointaine» E minor for Piano Trio (1903)
Maurice Ravel: Piano Trio A minor (1914)
Duration approx. 60 minutes
George Enescu's nostalgic «Sérénade lointaine» stands between two piano trio masterpieces of the 20th century. Dmitri Shostakovich expressed his emotion over the sudden death of his best friend in the Piano Trio in E minor, creating one of the most moving chamber music works of modernism.
Thirty years earlier, Maurice Ravel also integrated some Basque melodies into his light, floating, dance-like trio – only the mystically pensive 3rd movement («Passacaille») takes us to completely different worlds.
Trio Gaspard:
Jonian Ilias Kadesha, violin
Vashti Hunter, violoncello
Nicholas Rimmer, piano
