Part of the series «Newcomers»
Joseph Haydn: Piano Trio E major Hob. XV:28
Cheryl Frances-Hoad: «Melancholia» for Piano Trio (1999)
Dora Pejačević: Piano Trio No. 2 C major op. 29
Duration approx. 75 minutes, no interval
The Dora Piano Trio - winner of the Orpheus Swiss Chamber Music Competition 2024 - makes its debut in the Musikdorf with a work by its namesake: Dora Pejačević. The Croatian fin-de-siècle composer is one of the great rediscoveries of recent years. Her Piano Trio in C major is not only romantic and passionate, but also creates a highly poetic atmosphere.
This is complemented by «Melancholia» by Cheryl Frances-Hoad, the Composer in Residence 2024/25, which is inspired by Edvard Munch's painting of the same name, as well as Haydn's naively playful E major trio, whose only mysterious beginning is in the middle movement, which grows to pathetic grandeur.
