Part of the series «Chamber music compact» – Trio Gaspard plays 7 concerts in 3 days.
Joseph Haydn: Piano Trio A major Hob. XV:35
Sally Beamish: «Trance» (2023)
Nikos Skalkottas: 8 Variations on a Greek Folk Tune AK 43
Patricia Kopatchinskaja: New Work (2024, Swiss Premiere)
Joseph Haydn: Piano Trio G major Hob. XV:25
Duration approx. 60 minutes
The Trio Gaspard is currently working on a complete recording of Joseph Haydn's piano trios and complements each CD with a short contemporary piece, including «Trance» by Sally Beamish and a new work by Patricia Kopatchinskaja.
This concert spans an arc from Haydn's very early, almost baroque Piano Trio in A major to one of his most popular trios: Haydn dedicated the Trio in G major to his 'most important love affair' Rebecca Schröter, hence the intimate character (1st and 2nd movements) and the lively «Rondo all'Ongarese» at the end. In between stand the two commissioned works as well as Nikos Skalkottas' variations on a Greek folk song, sometimes sombrely melancholic, sometimes dreamy and humorous.
Trio Gaspard:
Jonian Ilias Kadesha, violin
Vashti Hunter, violoncello
Nicholas Rimmer, piano
