Part of the series «Newcomers»
Johann Sebastian Bach: Chorale «Mitten wir im Leben sind» BWV 383
Cheryl Frances-Hoad: «My Day in Hell» for String Quartet (2008)
Ludwig van Beethoven: «Heiliger Dankgesang eines Genesenen an die Gottheit, in der lydischen Tonart» from the String Quartet A minor op. 132
Béla Bartók: String Quartet No. 1 A minor Sz. 40
Duration approx. 75 minutes, no interval
After their successful debut in the Musikdorf in September 2022, the Moser String Quartet returns to Ernen as an up-and-coming ensemble that is constantly on the lookout for new challenges.
In addition to the epoch-making Quartet in A minor by Béla Bartók - which is often referred to as the founding work of modern Hungarian music - it will also present the work «My Day in Hell» by Cheryl Frances-Hoad. The British composer is Composer in Residence 2024/25 in the Musikdorf Ernen and refers in this work to the journey through purgatory in Dante Alighieri's «Divina commedia». Fittingly, this is followed by Beethoven's «Heiliger Dankgesang» in the spirit of a recovered person who has gone through their own personal hell.
