The first milestone and greatest step of young composers – at least in the pre-digital age – was the printing of Opus 1. It was the step with the first work recognised as valid to a broad, anonymous audience – one stepped out of the private sphere and faced public judgement.
The opening concert of "Chamber Music Plus" presents four very different ‘Opus 1’, from Beethoven's appearance on the music-historical stage, printed in 1795, to Arnold Schönberg's song "Dank", which is as steeped in late Romantic pathos as the exalted emotional world of the poem set to music.
