Henry Purcell: Fantasies F major Z 737 and D minor Z 739
Joseph Haydn: String Quartet in D major Op. 33 No. 6
Ludwig van Beethoven: String Quartet No. 11 in F minor Op. 95 "Quartetto serioso"
Duration approx. 50 minutes
The Chiaroscuro Quartet deliberately refrains from exaggerated tempi, even if these are sometimes considered particularly authentic. They prefer to rely on edgy intensifications and varied repetitions, on wit and flashes of inspiration in their interplay.
Like before, the Chiaroscuro Quartet begins its programme with two fantasies by Henry Purcell, which he wrote in the summer of 1680 in the full knowledge that no one would be interested in them. These are followed by Haydn's pastoral Quartet in D major and Beethoven's very personal "Quartetto serioso", written during a period of deep depression.
