Claire-Mélanie Sinnhuber is Composer in Residence 2025/26 in the Musikdorf Ernen. As part of her residency, she will be working on her newest string quartet work with the Quatuor Thalia whose members are students from the University of Music in Sion (HEMU Valais-Wallis).
The ensemble will perform Franz Schubert's gripping «Quartettsatz» and Antonín Dvořák's beloved «American» Quartet, which is one of the most popular string quartets ever thanks to its vitality and beautiful melodies.
The title of Claire-Mélanie Sinnhuber's string quartet, «Onze heures et demie dans les herbes», refers to the grass lily, also known in French as ‘belle-d'onze-heures’ or ‘dame-d'onze-heures’, in reference to the thermonastic reaction of its flowers, which open in full sunlight and close in the evening. The composer says of her work:
«If my pieces often bear the names of flowers, clouds or birds, it is because nature inspires me with its imagination, beauty and fragility, combined with an irrepressible vitality. However, my music is never an illustration of a title, which I usually find at the end of the composition process and which imposes itself through its correspondence. The music of my third quartet, somewhere between a lullaby and a dance, is built circularly around a ritornello that emerges from the solo cello and then spreads out – rushing – in the tutti.»
The Quatuor Thalia is coached by Swiss cellist and chamber musician Daniel Haefliger.
