The "Newcomers" weekend presents prize-winning ensembles of the Orpheus Swiss Chamber Music Competition. This year, three outstanding ensembles that succeeded at the 2022 competition make their debut, and two former winners return to the Musikdorf.
The Atenea Quartet won 1st prize at the 2021 Orpheus Competition, launching their professional career as a string quartet, including their debut in Ernen. The quartet is well on its way: at the end of 2022, it also won the prestigious "Prix Credit Suisse Jeunes Solistes" – another milestone in the promising career of the four young Catalonians.
For their second appearance in the Musikdorf, the quartet combines modernist music and chorales by Johann Sebastian Bach with the monumental string quartet in D minor "Death and the Maiden" by Franz Schubert.
