In the opening concert of its six-part concert series in the Musikdorf Ernen, the Trio Gaspard takes you to Vienna. Beethoven, with his cheerful Trio in E flat major, marks the beginning, followed by four beautifully Viennese mood pieces by Fritz Kreisler, one of the greatest violinists of the century.
In the summer of 1886, Johannes Brahms composed his Third Piano Trio in C minor at Lake Thun. The main theme of the first movement bursts forth like a mighty waterfall, soon followed by a wistfully lingering waltz. This is followed by the ghostly, darting Presto, an Alpine ‘Zwiefacher’ with its characteristic alternation between 2/4 and 3/4 time, and the finale, which once again combines power with passionate melody.
