The Festkonzert 4 combines Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's popular Hebrides Overture with three works whose unstoppable energy creates veritable
cascades of sound that flow into the audience. 

Joan Tower's Noon Dance evokes mesmerising, swirling and undulating soundscapes, while Franz Schubert's Quartettsatz draws listeners into the dramatic music with the powerful pull of the first tremolo motif.

Felix Mendelssohn completed his third piano quartet shortly before his 16th birthday. It impresses with its brilliant piano part (based on Mendelssohn's extraordinary pianistic abilities) in the fast movements – the dramatic first movement, the fairy-like shimmering scherzo and the rousing finale with virtuoso pianistic sound effects – interrupted only by the wistful, song-like Andante.
