Part of «Chamber Music Plus»
Sándor Veress: Four Transylvanian Dances for String Orchestra
Johannes Brahms: Quintet for Clarinet and String Quartet B minor op. 115
Arrangement for Clarinet and String Orchestra
interval
Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy: Concert for Violin, Piano and Strings D minor MWV O 4
Duration approx. 115 minutes, incl. interval
The final concert of Chamber Music Plus brings a programme full of energy and passion: the music of Sándor Veress revives the folk music of the Transylvanian Széklanders in the (freely invented) longing and exuberantly dancing melodies.
Johannes Brahms was inspired by the art of the clarinettist Robert Mühlfeld to compose his late masterpieces for clarinet, imbued with a restrained melancholy and a profoundly elegiac mood that is nevertheless at peace with the world. The expansion of the string quartet into a string orchestra promises particular tonal depth in that version of the clarinet quintet.
Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's youthful work is full of energy, joy in musical expression and the stupendous mastery of both solo instruments - with its captivating power, it promises an enthusiastic end to Chamber Music Plus 2024!
