Music beyond the festival period

Musikdorf Ernen is far from quiet from autumn until the end of June. For several years now, concerts have been held as part of the «Composer in Residence» project—and again in October 2026, featuring the young Upper Valais pianist Vivien Heinzmann and students from the HEMU Valais-Wallis (Sion).

The «Ensembles in Residence» project is entering its second round. This initiative allows young chamber music ensembles to use Ernen as an inspiring location outside of the festival season to further develop as a group. Not only do the beautiful rehearsal spaces, the breathtaking natural scenery, and the cozy village atmosphere create ideal conditions for their joint work, but the young musicians are also permitted to invite a mentor.

In this way, the Musikdorf strengthens its diverse promotion of young talent, which it consistently pursues and develops further in the spirit of festival founder György Sebők. One of the Ensembles in Residence is the Basel-based Wendel Quartet. The piano quartet was invited for the residency following its impressive debut at the Newcomers 2025 and will have its residency in June 2026. On the occasion of the General Assembly of the Verein Musikdorf Ernen on June 20th, they will also perform a big concert in the church of Ernen.

Further Ensembles in Residence will give concerts at the end of March (Dora Piano Trio) and in September within the extended framework of the Newcomers series (Trio Clara, Helix Trio).
