Following the Wendel Quartet's enthusiastically received debut in September 2025, the four young musicians will present Robert Schumann's popular Piano Quartet alongside Alfred Schnittke's short Piano Quartet, which references a fragment by Gustav Mahler.
The concert begins with the second piano quartet by French fin-de-siècle composer Mel Bonis, which follows in the tradition of César Franck and Gabriel Fauré. This beautiful work from 1927 is like a chamber music testament by the composer, who, despite her turbulent, almost cinematic biography, left behind a comprehensive and high-quality oeuvre of piano, organ and chamber music, as well as songs and choral music.
