Keith Jarrett: The Köln Concert (1975)
Duration approx. 75 minutes, no interval
Concert Bus Shuttle: Oberwald-Ernen, Ernen-Oberwald, Ernen-Binn
Maki Namekawa interprets Keith Jarrett's legendary Köln Concert from 1975. It is not only a unique historical document, but also a milestone in modern music history.
Instead of a large Bösendorfer concert grand piano, Jarrett had been given a small, out-of-tune rehearsal instrument with sticky pedals and keys, and a lack of catering, sleep deprivation and back pain did little to lift the spirits of the improviser of the century. Jarrett played anyway, and the sound engineer on site left the microphone switched on. This was a stroke of luck, as the recording became the best-selling jazz and piano solo album of all time.
Maki Namekawa interprets this famous improvisation at Musikdorf Ernen with great attention to detail, creating a unique concert experience. Thanks to her virtuoso playing, Namekawa brings the piece back to life.
